Hakuba
The Hakuba valley is situated at the base of the Kita Alps and is possibly Japans most stunning alpine environment with rugged peaks rising up steeply from the valley floor.It is a popular destination for mountain lovers all through the year. Hakuba and neighbouring Otari contain 10 ski areas with terrain to suit all abilities, from beginner to backcountry expert.
This area is blessed with natural beauty, plentiful snowfalls and a wealth of excellent hot springs that will enchant, amuse and relax you in the most wonderful way.
Add to this the excellent facilities on and off the mountain, the wide choice of Japanese and western restaurants and bars throughout the town and the quintessentially Japanese ryokan style accommodation and you have the formula for a great holiday.
Each of the many resorts in this valley offers a different experience so there really is something for everyone.

Happo One
Hakubafs premier resort, Happo One, is Japans most well known and highest profile ski area. It features over 1000m vertical drop, a long sustained pitch and has some of Japans only lift served high alpine skiing.
The terrain is excellent, offering up wide open spaces, long perfectly groomed runs and sheltered, well spaced trees, filled with fluffy goodness, creating the perfect place to play when the weather comes in.
The upper mountain lifts lead to an easily accessed backcountry area of huge proportions for those with the skills and an adventurous spirit.
The views available on a sunny day are nothing short of breathtaking.
Despite all of this, the mountain is uncrowded and lift lines are non existent on all but the busiest weekends.
No wonder it is the crown jewel of Japan skiing.

One of our favourites with excellent terrain and a welcome policy about tree skiing.
If you are able to be here on the right day you are in for a truly wonderful time.
Luckily, the snow is usually abundant so finding the right day isn't hard.
