Nozawa Onsen

 

A hot-spring town dating back to over 800 years ago, Nozawa Onsen has long been a popular health retreat.
The town retains a traditional and quaint feel with narrow cobble-stone streets, traditional style architecture buildings and areas of shrines and temples.13 free to use public onsens, maintained by the yu-nakama (friends of the hot water) are scattered around the village, with varying degrees of water temperatures.

The excellent ski museum is definitely worth a look.There are numerous bars and restaurants throughout the town offering all the Japanese favourites and delicious local specialities.

Situated in northern Nagano, it has played a significant role in the history of Japanese skiing.

 

The ski area is expansive, with something to suit every ability including wide open beginner areas, long, well manicured groomed runs and excellent powder skiing for the more experienced.
